Description
Future autonomous cars need new exterior lighting concepts! Many concept studies sketching the future trends in automotive lighting and autonomous driving show exterior displays on the frontand rear side of a car. Organic light‐emitting diodes (OLEDs) are a well‐established technology in consumer market OLED displays with millions of individual pixels, as well as in automotive OLED rear‐lights with only a small number of large area segments. OLEDs are a surface emitting technology with an unmatched high contrast and offer flexible and extremely thin devices. However, there are challenges that prevented the introduction of OLED displays as automotive rear‐lights. In this work, these challenges are tackled in order to enable displaylike, highly segmented OLEDs for automotive rear‐light applications. A technology demonstrator including all results of the development of highly segmented OLEDs was built and presented at the Innovation Showcase at LOPEC 2018
