Description
Palliative medicine has evolved into an independent medical discipline over the past 20 years. In this diachronic study, the ongoing institutionalization of palliative medicine is analyzed using corpus-linguistic methods. The gradual establishment of the new discipline is made comprehensible by analyzing a specialized text corpus containing more than 60 million words. At the same time, new methods of diachronic analysis of large corpora are explored within the scope of the study. A multi-perspective corpus design allows detailed insights into different phases of the history of modern palliative medicine. A concise description of key terms, values and attitudes makes it possible to grasp the essence of palliative care.
