This book provides an introduction to academic freedom in the People's Republic of China (China). It examines key aspects of the freedom of academics to teach and research in China and the question of the institutional autonomy of Chinese universities. This introductory book is aimed at academics and universities in Germany who cooperate with academics and/or institutions in China and would like to gain an overview of the Chinese academic system. It is also suitable as a textbook for students of sinology and modern China studies as well as for students of other subjects who are planning a study visit to China.
