Rights

The FAU encourages the University's researchers not to grant publishers exclusive publication rights but to reserve the right to make a digital copy of their work freely available. FAU University Press completely waives the transfer of exclusive or special rights.

Author's rights

Authors will be required to contractually transfer to FAU University Press

  • the simple, non-exclusive rights of usage of the digital publication as specified under the terms of the Creative Commons License  BY (the preferred license, unless there are legal arguments against it)
  • and, in the case of printed versions, the simple, non-exclusive rights of usage for the agreed period of availability.

Our authors thus retain possession of their exclusive rights of usage in addition to the right to publish their work in its present or any other form elsewhere or to make alternative use of it. Other contractual agreements may be concluded in individual cases. In their Publishing Contract authors are required to provide a confirmation that their work does not violate the rights of third parties.

Licensing

By default, FAU University Press recommends the most liberal license

Other Creative Commons or open licenses may be issued upon request, if legally necessary.

Self-archiving

All publications are automatically published in the OPEN FAU repository and are forwarded to the German National Library's archive server and digitally preserved there. Our authors are free to deposit and publish their works published by FAU University Press immediately without any embargo restrictions on other repositories, websites (e.g. author’s homepage) and across social and scientific networks such as ResearchGate.
